WordPress Malware Cleanup - WordPress Security Advice - WP Tasks

WordPress Malware Cleanup

A hacked WordPress website is anybody’s worst nightmare. Malware is software that’s specifically designed to harm your website and web server, and it’s not just something that infects WordPress. Malware attacks exist for most electronic devices and can infect your computer, phone or your smart TV.

With WordPress websites there are two main types of malware attack:

Background Attacks

These normally happen without you knowing as they often run in the background without affecting your main website pages, so it’s harder to spot.. They are generally used by hackers to create spam links and redirect loops that are used for SEO hacking. They can also be used as a part of a hackers network of computers that are used to take other websites offline or send a lot of spam emails. Both of which can get you into a lot of trouble!

Ransomware Attacks

These attacks take over your website and will force you to pay a ransom to get your website and data back. These attacks can also hide some ransomware files on your server and then direct unsuspecting people to download these infected files from your server. Meaning you get into trouble for distributing attack software!

The biggest impact for your business is that these attacks can bring your website to a standstill and worse still can get you blacklisted from ISPs and even from Google. What would the impact be on your business if this happened?

These attacks are normally done by ‘bots’ that crawl the internet looking for vulnerable websites and then automatically attack them.

You need to keep WordPress and its plugins up-to-date to make it harder for hackers to get in. You also need to scan your website and server to make sure that nothing untoward is happening in the background. If you don’t do this already, chances are you’re already infected.
